The race is on to vaccinate the North

As I noted in my post last week (see here) it is vital, if the Far North is to survive over coming months and flourish ‘on the other side of COVID’, that we ensure a high level of vaccination to ensure visitors, and locals, can feel as safe as possible in the region. While some jurisdictions in the North are doing well, it’s disappointing to see some areas of the region slipping badly behind in the race to get as many vaccinated as possible.

LGA % 1st dose % 2nd dose
Hinchinbrook SC 58.5 40.4
Tablelands RC 55.3 36.3
Cairns RC 52.1 34.0
Townsville CC 49.0 31.5
Douglas SC 50.6 30.4
Cassowary Coast RC 46.2 26.7
Mareeba SC 43.6 25.2
Yarrabah AC 24.4 8.0

Data is as at 26th August for percentage of estimated population over 15 years of age.

By 29th August the national figures showed 1st dose coverage at 57.0% and 2nd dose coverage of 33.9%; in Queensland the equivalent rates were 49.8% and 31.1%.
