We have finally got the delayed June Jobseeker data from the Dept of Social Services. The original, unseasonaly adjusted, data allows us to update our Conus/CBC Staff Selection Trend data series which shows us that Trend jobseekers in Cairns are continuing to decline at a faster pace than the State or national average.
In the Cairns SA4 area Trend jobseekers fell in June to 8,256 which is a decline of 8.3% from a year earlier and the lowest level since Jan 2013. Trend jobseekers across Queensland fell 7.3% in the year to June while across Australia the decline was 7.9%.
To our south we see continued falls in Townsville with Trend jobseekers down to 7,053, which is a 6.5% drop for the year.
The Conus Trend series for all the SA4 regions in Queensland shows us that declines across the Greater Brisbane area (7.3%) were almost identical to those in the regions (7.2%) but that there were some marked differences among the regions within those areas. For example, within Greater Brisbane Trend jobseekers fell 12.3% in Brisbane-South but by only 4.2% in Ipswich. In the Rest of Queensland the Sunshine Coast saw the faster rate of decline (down 13.0%) while Trend jobseekers rose in Queensland-Outback (+5.2%) and Darling Downs-Maranoa (+0.4%).
