More evidence of the tightness in the labour market in the North

Today’s release by the DSS allows us to update our Conus/CBC Staff Selection Regional JobSeeker Trend series. What this shows is that, despite signs of a gradual weakening in the labour markets across the nation and State, we are not seeing that reflected in the North.

Trend JobSeekers across Australia were up 1.5% y/y in June, and across Queensland were up 1.9% y/y. However, in Cairns the increase was just 0.2% y/y and in Townsville even less at just 0.1% y/y. The labour market in the North is demonstrating a good deal more strength than that seen more broadly elsewhere.
