Lock-downs hit Cairns Airport numbers

Cairns Airport have reported a 12.5% m/m drop in total passenger numbers in July as the impact of the Sydney and Melbourne lock-downs hit home. Over the course of the past 12 months total passenger numbers through the airport are down 29.3% from the same period a year ago.

Nevertheless, the airport has seen a strong bounce back from the lows seen earlier in 2020. On a year-on-year basis passenger numbers in July are up more than 114%.

Clearly the longer the Sydney and Melbourne (and now Cairns) lock-downs continue the slower the long journey to recovery will take.
