Domestic Tourism in Regional Queensland for the year to May ’21 now higher than year to May ’20

As a demonstration of the strength of the domestic tourism boom underway in regional Australia, there is perhaps none better than today’s data from Tourism Research Australia (see here) for May which shows that, over the past 12 months, domestic tourism expenditure in Regional QLD is now 6.6% higher than for the same period to May ’20; in Greater Brisbane & the Gold Coast it is down 21.4%.

Across the nation there has been a 12.9% decline for the year and the States are all down;

  • NSW -3.4%
  • Victoria -37.2%
  • Queensland -6.4%
    • Greater Brisbane and the Gold Coast -21.4%
    • Regional Queensland +6.6%
  • SA -5.9%
  • WA -5.0%
