Loose Change has an excellent post on the flaws inherent with using misleading data to compare rates across varying Councils. As Mark points out, the protocol of comparing rate levels at a given average land valuation level makes no sense whatsoever when land valuations vary so much from Council to Council.
The preferred method would be to compare the rates for a median value property in each Council; a process that Mark has started. Once the Tully show holiday is out of the way I will try and update that data to include the Cassowary Coast.
Hint…don’t take the benchmarking graph that Mark has posted from Cairns Council as evidence that rates in CCRC are too high!
