The Dept of Social Services data for Newstart and Youth Allownace recipients in July, released yesterday, has allowed us to update our Conus/CBC Staff Selection Jobseeker Trend series for the SA4 regions of Cairns and Townsville. What we see is a continued decline in Trend jobseeker numbers in both regions.
Across the State as a whole the Conus Trend estimates that jobseekers have fallen by 7.5% y/y, althougth this lags the 9.0% reduction seen nationwide. Greater Brisbane (down 7.4%) and the Rest of Queensland (down 7.5%) have seen very similar levels of reductions.
In our own region the Conus/CBC Staff Selection Trend shows Cairns trend jobseekers down 8.9% (to 8,139) in July while Townsville fell 6.0% (to 7,027).
